Dolphinarium extinction policy: “Animals take precedence, not the timing”

As early as 2019, Ben Weyts promised to work on a extinction scenario for the Boudewijn Seapark, the only remaining dolphinarium in our country. Since that statement, however, it has remained silent. In March this year, the minister announced that he would make a decision before the summer. When Member of Parliament Meyrem Almaci points this out to him, it does not seem that he will make any decisions quickly.

“The most important thing is a solid solution”

“I try to realize that, but timing is not the most important thing for me. A solid solution is. There are still many questions for which there is no solution, such as where to go with the dolphins. There was a very concrete project in Greek waters where we did see a solution, but that turns out not to be the case. So we are continuing to work on a solid solution that is best for the animals in question,” said Minister Weyts.
