The Egmont Light Festival was startled on Friday evening around 7 p.m. by an incident at the Heroes. Just after the opening of the light festival, there was a lot of commotion on the Heldenlaan. A man had thrown some of his belongings out of his apartment. The household belongings ended up on the street two floors below. Fortunately, no one was injured by the falling debris. He then set a fire in his apartment.

Four police officers entered the apartment building and were able to extinguish the incipient fire before the fire brigade arrived. They handcuffed the man in his fifties and took him to the police station. The incident caused a lot of attention but had no influence on the light festival. The Egmont Light Festival will also take place in Zottegem on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
