Doja Cat feels ‘free’ after 500k fans unfollow her

Losing 500,000 followers feels like defeating a “big beast” for Doja Cat.

On Wednesday (August 16), Doja Cat shared on her Instagram story that she felt “liberated” after losing 500,000 followers over the past month.

“As if I had defeated a big beast”: Doja Cat comments on the loss of followers

In recent weeks, Doja Cat has had several altercations with her fan base on her Twitter account. This apparently caused 500,000 of them to hit the unfollow button. This did not go unnoticed by Doja Cat. Though the 27-year-old still has 25 million followers, she opened up about the loss on Wednesday, saying it feels like she’s overcome an obstacle. It was like a “big beast” from which the US rapper was able to free herself.

“When I see all these people unfollowing me, I feel like I’ve defeated a great beast that has oppressed me for so long. It feels like I can reconnect with the people I really care about and love me for who I am and not what I was.”

In the past few weeks, Doja Cat has clashed with her fans several times. After they started calling themselves “Kittenz,” the “Get Into It” rapper explained that people who call themselves “kittenz” need to “take the phone away” and “get a job.” Even when a fan asked her on Twitter to say that she loves her fans, Doja Cat replied that she didn’t because she didn’t know them. The musician then received criticism that she was not “grateful” to her fans and would not realize her dependence on them.

Most recently, Doja Cat released her single “Paint The Town Red”. In the accompanying music video, the rapper flirts with the Grim Reaper and embarks on a journey to hell.
