Dogs again at notorious dog breeder Eersel, municipality removes animals

Dogs have again been found on the grounds of the controversial dog breeder from Eersel. During a check at the beginning of this week, it turned out that, just like last week, eight dogs were still being kept. This is the tenth time that the breeder has made a mistake and that is why the municipality will now remove the dogs itself. Breeder Jan Paridaans must also pay 25,000 euros in penalty payments.

Earlier this year, the NVWA seized 667 neglected animals from bread breeder Jan Paridaans. The dogs lived on concrete floors, in small and dirty cages and had health problems. After House of Animals released undercover images of what it called a ‘puppy factory’, several inspections by the NVWA followed.

Illegal breeding
The Council of State ruled that the man had to stop his company. When he refused, the municipality of Eersel imposed penalty payments on him. For every week that dogs were found, he had to pay 2,500 euros. And for a maximum of ten weeks, up to an amount of 25,000 euros.

But Jan Paridaans never seems to learn. Until now, there were dogs on the premises at every inspection. The man was given the opportunity to get rid of the dogs himself, but that did not happen. Monday was the tenth time that dogs were found during the weekly inspection. The penalty has now been filled up and that is why the municipality is going to remove the dogs.

System in the Netherlands
At the beginning of this month, Karen Soeters from House of Animals was shocked that the breeder was still able to keep dogs. “The system in the Netherlands is flawed. Someone from whom hundreds of dogs are taken away because of the dire living conditions in which they live should simply never be able to keep animals again,” Soeters said at the time.

House of Animals advocates a lifelong ban on keeping dogs in Eersel. “The law that makes this possible does not come into effect until January 1. This shows that such a lifelong ban is very necessary,” said Soeters.
