DOGE: Heavily discussed cryptocurrency
After Bitcoin, Dogecoin is the most discussed cryptocurrency on social media, as reported by beincrypto. Although the fun currency has recently lost popularity compared to Shiba Inu, there are indications that the Dogecoin could regain its old level on the popularity scale. In the meantime, the official DOGE Twitter account has even broken the three million follower mark. This makes the Dogecoin the cryptocurrency with the most followers after Bitcoin. In 2021, Dogecoin was also the most discussed cryptocurrency on the Reddit platform.

Tesla accepts Dogecoin as payment for merchandise items
Tesla CEO Elon Musk repeatedly expresses his support for the cryptocurrency Dogecoin via Twitter. Only in January of this year did he explain that Tesla merchandise can now also be paid for with the Dogecoin.

In the meantime, as t3n reports, there were even certain products on the shop page that could only be paid for with Dogecoin. These included merchandise such as the Giga Texas Belt Buckle, a silver Tesla belt buckle and the Cyberquad for kids. In the meantime, only the Tesla belt buckle can only be paid for with the meme cryptocurrency. The accessory is available for a price of 1,140 Dogecoin. This means that the belt buckle is worth around 141.85 US dollars at the current exchange rate (as of February 28, 2022).
When asked by a Twitter user whether SpaceX and Starlink could not also accept the Dogecoin as a means of payment for merchandise items and the internet, the self-proclaimed Dogefather merely responded with a winking smiley.

Besides Musk’s emoji hint, the DOGE developer also reacted to the idea. “I want to buy a model rocket with dog money,” he wrote in a tweet. Nothing official is currently known about whether the Dogecoin will also be used as a payment method for SpaceX and Starlink, but according to Musk, the meme currency is better for paying for products than Bitcoin, for example. At the very least, the currency created as a bitcoin parody is said to be less harmful to the environment than bitcoin itself.

Tesla Supercharger Stations in Santa Monica
Most recently, Musk announced on Twitter that DOGE will be accepted as a form of payment at the Supercharger stations in Santa Monica. As btc-echo reports, the meme currency then rose in price. In response to a tweet showing the fully booked Supercharger stations, Musk replies that he plans to open a restaurant or a drive-in cinema there as well. Of course, it should also be possible for customers to pay with the Dogecoin here.
