French media write this week about the remarkable find. The honest finders, two couples, were on a nature walk in La Londe-les-Maures two years ago. When their dog started digging, a metal box suddenly appeared under the ground. When the two couples opened it, they found a plastic bag containing four bundles of 500 200 euro notes – worth 400,000 euros.
The honest finders immediately took the unearthed treasure to the police. They tried to find out the origin of the money. The police believe the money comes from criminal activities. But despite DNA research, the use of sniffer dogs and on-site observations, more than two years later it is still not clear where the money came from.
According to French law, the honest finders can now claim half of the money, 200,000 euros. The other half goes to the municipality of La Londe-les-Maures (Var), where the money was found.
