The Amstelveen police released a dog from a hot camper in a parking lot near the Amsterdamse Bos yesterday afternoon. The owner could not be located and the dog was seized. He has to answer to the judge and will be fined.
Yesterday afternoon, the forestry of the Amsterdamse Bos sounded the alarm after it was discovered that a dog in a camper was in distress. “At first there was barking, but later not anymore,” responds an employee of animal ambulance Amstelland.
After the police arrived, a window was smashed and the four-legged friend was freed. The animal was locked in a crate without water. “The young dog has been seized and is currently doing well.”
Search owner
A search for the owner turned up nothing. “Foresters have gone deep into the forest and called, but we have not spoken to the owner yet. Today we are still trying to track down the owner.”
It remains to be seen whether the two will be reunited. The owner will have to appear in court for this. “He determines whether he will get his pet back. All costs incurred will be recovered from the owner.”
Due to the extreme heat, two ambulances were ready in the Amstelland region yesterday. Every summer, the animal shelter receives about 7 or 8 reports of overheated, confined dogs.
But since the bill for the liberating dogs has increased fivefold, it is remarkably quiet. “We had expected some shit on the marble, but except for this dog, we have not had any reports this season. We hope that the new amount scares people off.”
Update
The owner has now reported to the Amstelveen police. It turns out to be an Italian tourist. The man was fined 400 euros.
