Dog hater shreds dark chocolate on Alkmaars hiking trail: “Already two sick dogs”

Oudorp Veterinary Clinic warns dog owners to watch out while walking in the Alkmaarderhout: a dog hater has placed chocolate in the form of wood chips there. A woman walking her dog there yesterday afternoon found the pieces of dark chocolate on one of the hiking trails. Two dogs got sick after eating.

A walking path runs behind the former Koekenbier restaurant, where the woman walked her dog yesterday afternoon. She sees her dog eating something off the floor. Wood chips, it seems at first glance. Until she studies the scraps more closely; it turns out not to be wood, but pure chocolate.

Knowing that this can be life-threatening, she rushes the animal to the vet. An injection is given there, which causes the dog to vomit.

“We have never experienced this before,” says an employee of the clinic. “Fortunately, the lady was quick, the dog is doing well. But this is very dangerous, dark chocolate is very toxic for dogs.”

‘Pay attention’

The chocolate chips were removed from the walking path by the woman who found them. Because it is not certain that all shreds are gone, the veterinary clinic warns to be extra careful in that area. “Keep the dog on a leash and pay close attention. If you have walked there and suspect that the dog has eaten it, contact the vet.”

Veterinary Clinic Oudorp has informed the municipality. The municipality has contacted the police. “We are aware of two reports,” he said. “The municipality was unable to find anything yesterday, but will look again today.”

People who encounter such suspicious situations are asked to always report this to the police.
