Dog dumped in dumpster, jumps into hands of garbage man after days

A bizarre discovery Thursday morning in an underground waste container in Den Bosch. When it was emptied, a dog jumped out from among the garbage bags. “I thought: what are we getting? Damn that’s a dog!” says Boy de Wilde, who is a driver at the waste disposal service in Den Bosch.

On Thursday he made his standard round past the containers, which are emptied with a truck and crane. When he lifted the bin out of the ground and emptied it over his truck, he couldn’t believe what he saw. “These bags fall into a kind of funnel and are then pressed together. Suddenly something jumped out. A dog.”

“I immediately went to it, but I thought: it is going to die.”

Boy immediately pressed the truck’s emergency stop and climbed on top of the truck, where the dog had landed. “I got down on my haunches to call him, but he was all stressed. At that moment he jumped off the barge at full speed.”

It landed on the ground and squeaked briefly, but then stopped moving. “I immediately went to it, but I thought: it is going to die.”

Boy called the animal ambulance, who picked up the dog and took it to the vet. “During the ride, the dog became a bit more lively again and once on the treatment table, he also stood up again,” says one of the paramedics. The dog turned out to be dehydrated and was therefore put on an IV. He was also very thin.

“This was done on purpose, there is no other way.”

The dog is chipped, but it is unclear who owns it. Boy does everything he can to find out. “That flap can only be opened with a card and only when the flap is closed does what is inside fall down. This was done on purpose, there is no other way.”

Boy has now requested the dump data of the container and the camera images of the school opposite the container. He hopes that this will make him a little wiser. “I’m going to get to the bottom of it.”

“He’s been through enough and then I’d like to take him myself.”

The dog will go to the animal shelter in Den Bosch on Friday, where he will stay for two weeks. If the owner doesn’t show up then he can be adopted.

Boy is then the first to report. “It has been in a cold container for days, was almost crushed by my box and jumped off the truck. He has been through enough and then I would like to take him in myself.”
