UAn absolute guide to choosing the right dog breeds is a difficult undertaking. There are those who choose driven by aesthetics (“What tenderness the Border Collies!”, “What elegance the greyhounds”), who from fashions (the French bulldog like the Ferragni, the poodle like the Hunziker). Who from comfort: short hair vs long hair, size, drool are determining factors. Someone, more wisely, does it taking into account the characteristics of the dog on the one hand and of the adoptive family on the other.
“The 7 breeds I would never adopt”
Those who have extensive experience with animals, such as veterinarians, have a lot to suggest to aspiring owners. Without mincing words, a veterinary student on TikTok expresses herself: she does it with a video, below, which has gone viral. More than recommending dogs, Marge Handley definitely discourages some. She compiled the ranking of the 7 dog breeds that she would never think of adopting.
Coat, diseases and characteristics of dog breeds
Some of the reasons mentioned are strictly personal, while others hit the mark and address real issues. For example, when they call into question the pathologies from which brachycephalic dogs suffer, starting with serious breathing difficulties.
Among the opposed races, therefore, the poodle: because she suffers from many skin problems (quite true), and in addition, the girl says, one attacked her grandmother.
Thumbs down also for the dachshundBack and paw problems are so numerous that x-rays are practiced immediately. Here too there is an element of truth there: short limbs and elongated backDachshunds often suffer from spinal problems, especially if they have poor musculature.
THE Corgi so loved by Queen Elizabeth? They are small and weak, “a Corgi also attacked a colleague of mine.” What about the Pyrenean dog: it is a very beautiful breed, but it sheds too much hair.
Dog Breeds Health, Smell and Noise
The issue is more serious in the case of English Bulldog: has so many, but so many health problems that… better not to choose it (it’s the question of brachycephalic dogs). THE Beagle? Loud and dirty to say the least, TikToker claims. The share of truth in this statement? Dogs with rich undercoat or with an oily coat actually have a strong stench. If the wire-haired (dachshunds and terriers) or those with continuous growth (such as the poodle) are less odorous, the shepherd, track and blood dogs (beagles, dalmatians and hounds) are more, sometimes much more. Healthy diet and proper hygiene (neither too much nor too little) mitigate the problem. Even with respect to the “noise” of the beagle there is some truth: because they are excellent guard dogs and warn at the slightest noise but also for their particular way of smelling, particularly developed: it retains odorous particles in the nasal cavities by inhaling and exhaling quickly and the operation is (a bit) noisy.
THE Doodle (mixed breed dogs with poodles) are instead, according to the veterinarian, overrated, “even if ideal for allergy sufferers” (poodles are considered hypoallergenic).
Modestly we try to reply to the thesis by inviting to aalso listen to the opinions of the experts to choose the most suitable dog breeds for the family that will welcome the four-legged.
