Does the Festhalle have to reckon with claims for damages in the millions?

The “Category 8” area for the Roger Waters concert in the Frankfurt Festhalle can still be purchased from Eventim’s online ticket service. “Normal price” is written there. And the order point for May 28 signals the green light to the right. A “seat” is still free in the so-called “Golden Circle” with a good view of the heavily illuminated giant show. Cost: a whopping 292.74 euros.

As of today, Tuesday (February 28), the fact that well-heeled Waters fans will really take their concert chairs in the golden zone of the venerable Festhalle at the Frankfurt Exhibition Center is up for discussion.

After the state of Hesse, the city of Frankfurt also called for the Pink Floyd co-founder to cancel his concert. This is on the way to being implemented. In contrast to the large private arenas in Hamburg or Cologne, the Festhalle belongs to the public sector through the municipal trade fair company. Politicians can also implement their massive concerns here.

The ban on the Main is not yet legally binding. But the Waters gig in Frankfurt hardly seems likely due to the massive protests.

Now the regional edition of “Bild” is already extrapolating the pecuniary consequences. And this looks like this, calculated with a thumb:

With around 7,000 seats and a correspondingly high ticket price, the Waters concert team would be entitled to compensation of around 2.7 million euros, according to “Bild”. This claim for damages could affect the trade fair and thus its owner, the city of Frankfurt (60 percent) and the state of Hesse (40 percent).

Another calculation is made in insider circles. “A typical English deal provides that artists of this size get one million euros plus 80 percent of the expected ticket income,” an insider is said to have revealed to the “Bild colleague”.

All over Europe, the cities where Roger Waters wants to perform will now look at what is happening in Frankfurt with eagle eyes. The entire tour, which starts in Lisbon, is under cancellation pressure. Roger Waters has been accused of anti-Semitism – the 79-year-old denies being an anti-Semite.
