Former Schalke sporting director Rouven Schröder has spoken openly about RB Leipzig’s interest in signing Assan Ouédraogo.
“During my time at Schalke, he was given the title of top talent relatively early on, which is never easy. That trained him and allowed him to mature. Despite his young age, he already has a lot of ideas. And that’s not the only reason why he’s interesting for many clubs,” said the 48-year-old in an interview with “Bild”.
Schröder made it clear: “If you don’t even have him on your radar, you haven’t done your homework.”
Words that certainly won’t go down well with Schröder’s ex-employer Schalke 04. That’s probably why the Leipzig squad planner added: “But we should also respect the fact that he is currently under contract with Schalke 04.”
Will Ouédraogo stay at FC Schalke 04?
Ouédraogo is one of the biggest German young talents. The 17-year-old made his professional debut with second division club Schalke 04 this season and has been part of the regular staff for most of the season so far. The midfielder traveled to the World Cup in Indonesia with the U17 national team in November, where he was injured and therefore left early.
His youth contract with the Knappen will automatically be converted into a first professional contract when he turns 18 next May. However, as “Sport Bild” reported, it contains various exit clauses that should make it easier to leave Gelsenkirchen early.
