does John de Mol put his pride aside?

Avastars, John de Mol’s newest TV child, falls even further. After 304 thousand and 214 thousand viewers, the third episode attracted 197 thousand viewers last night. “What hell.”

The ratings of Avastars would be unacceptable to any other channel boss, but that is apparently different if your boss is also the producer of this show. SBS 6 boss Marco Louwerens of course does not have the power to torpedo John de Mol’s TV child. So the big question is: when will John put his pride aside?

‘What Hell’

Tina Nijkamp, the former boss of SBS 6, thinks the score is incredibly bad. With 197 thousand viewers, Avastars achieved a market share of only 3.6 percent. “What a viewing hell. Where does this end? Under 150 thousand viewers next week? Could just be,” she writes on her analysis channel.

This can’t go on like this, says Tina. “Perhaps SBS 6 will now decide to only broadcast the final next week and then a repeat of Mr. Frank Visser or Code van Coppens before the next talent show The Talent Scouts starts again? That would also benefit the potential of that program.”

Not taken seriously

It could just be that flopping has a different effect on The Talent Scouts, says Tina. “Take a break from talent shows that no one wants to watch. The viewer now certainly does not feel taken seriously by SBS 6, that is clear.”

Televizier journalist Jef Willemsen thinks that John no longer has a choice. He tweets: “After three weeks, Avastars drops below 200,000 viewers, while Today Inside moves effortlessly towards the million mark immediately afterwards. The SBS 6 viewer cannot give a much clearer signal, it seems to me…”

Movie from 1997

RTL Boulevard reporter Joost Maiburg points out that sister channel Net5 opposite Avastars attracted almost as many viewers with a film rerun from 1997: The Peacemaker attracted 192 thousand viewers.

The big winners in prime time were NPO 1’s Flikken Maastricht (1.5 million) and NPO 2’s Twee voor Twaalf (1.3 million). The commercial competitor RTL 4 attracted almost 1.1 million viewers (19 percent) with De Verraders.
