Does Flemming score another big hit with third single? ‘Best song so far’

A year ago, the name Flemming Viguurs (26) hardly rang a bell with anyone. Now the singer from Vugt releases his third single in seven months, he plays twelve times in a sold-out Ahoy and he dares to dream about a career like Guus Meeuwis. But first his third song of his own: Automatic. ”A nice positive dance number and one that is not about love”, says Flemming.

At the moment that Flemming is in Ahoy twelve times with the Vrienden van Amstel, his third single is released. ”It is exciting but above all fun. The pressure of that one hit is off”, says the singer known from Amsterdam and Zij Wil Mij.

“Actually, there was another song ready as a third single.”

Actually, there was another song ready as the third single. But a few months ago, during a writer’s camp in Kaatsheuvel, the song was suddenly there automatically. “And this fits better with the season,” Flemming knows. “The song that was actually planned was a lot quieter. But with Automatic we can dance nicely and you get a summer feeling.”

Two weeks ago during Paaspop, Flemming already played the song for about 14,000 people. “That was exciting, nobody knew the song. Yet they sang along after three choruses. And there was good dancing, exactly what was intended. That’s a good sign.” And rapper Snelle is also singing along, Flemming laughs.

“I dare say that this is my best written song to date.”

Flemming himself has had the song on repeat for months. “That’s so weird, that your own song is catchy. I dare say that this is my best written song to date.”

No lack of confidence. A lot also depends on the song. After his first hit ‘Amsterdam’ and the subsequent ‘Ze Wil Mij’, the singer Flemming has to establish himself definitively with ‘Automatic’. ”You want to stay and that chance is greater with a hit. Numbers I write should always be a nine. They must always meet certain standards. After a few hits you can’t slow down and sit back.”

In any case, the Vughtenaar is embraced by the Dutch artists, he notices that very much during Friends of Amstel in Rotterdam. “This is really a bucket list thing. Actually, it was on my list for year three, but now after six months I can already be among the great artists.”

“I really appreciate that people want to listen to my song.”

And that occasionally creates an emotional moment for Flemming. “I was just talking to Rolf Sanchez about it. So many people in the world want to be known in music. And then we succeed in making our dreams come true. That makes me emotional, like on the stage of Paaspop where I burst into tears. I really appreciate that people want to listen to my song.”

The big dream of the 26-year-old singer is a career like Guus Meeuwis. “I hope that at that age I can still be involved with music every day and that I sell out stadiums. I would sign up for that immediately.”

During Paaspop we spoke extensively about his childhood dream to Flemming.
