Lovers of second-hand clothing had a nice afternoon today at the DNK cultural center in Assen. Youth panel Oui We organized a clothing exchange for everyone who wanted to look for a new outfit.
You didn’t have to bring any money, but you did have to bring a selection from your own wardrobe. Visitors to the fair were allowed to choose something from someone else for each item of clothing submitted.
“We think sustainability is very important,” says Meike Verdouw of the youth panel. “With the fair we want to show that it is not necessary to buy something new every time you want different beautiful clothes.”
Many other people think the same way, as is evident from the number of visitors. Soon after the opening of the fair, DNK is teeming with shoppers who are enthusiastically browsing through the clothing racks. Looking for a new addition.
In addition to exchanging clothes, visitors could also participate in clothing repair workshops to learn how to repair broken t-shirts or jackets with missing buttons.
The day was a resounding success for the organizing young people. That leaves you wanting more. “When you see how many people came with full bags, that’s really great. Maybe we should organize this again.”
