Doede Okkema wins Golden Hat at the Cartoon Festival

​For the 62nd edition of the Cartoon Festival in Knokke-Heist, a strong social theme was chosen, in which the cartoonists show authenticity and its meaning, especially for women. A total of 471 cartoonists from 62 different countries took part in the competition, bringing the number of cartoons to 1884. The winner was chosen by a six-member jury.

Originality and clarity rewarded

The main prize is for Doede Okkema. The Dutch cartoonist already won the Gouden Hoed once in 2020. “With his graphically clear drawings, he always knows how to tell a good “timeless” joke without words,” according to the jury’s verdict.

The Silver Hat goes to Ghislain Vermote, who was especially praised by the jury for his original approach. The Bronze Hat falls to Ludo Goderis, whose cartoon is mainly praised for its emotional background. Goderis also receives the Davidsfonds Prize. Finally, the audience award goes to Danny De Haes.
