Dock worker saves motorist from water in Zeebrugge
The incident happened this morning just before 5 o’clock in the Kiwiweg in the port of Zeebrugge. At the Pierre Vandammesluis, the car ended up in the Connection dock.
The driver, an elderly man, was rescued from his car with the help of a dock worker who saw the incident. There are concrete blocks along the Kiwi Road to prevent such accidents, but the man ended up in the water, between the blocks.
Car not sunk
The driver was lucky that his car stuck on the edge of the dock and did not sink to the bottom. He was taken to hospital for treatment. The emergency services arrived at the scene with divers and a boat, but were not obliged to intervene.
The car has been towed and is ready for the scrap heap.
