Dobbero provides water fun in tanks on Oude Leiearm

Tourism Leiestreek held the first edition of Dobbero on Saturday. The registered participants crawled into a metal tank in groups of two, four or six. In it they paddled or floated on the old Lys arm past other tanks where poetry, music, song or stories resounded. The bar was also in the water and the groups could order a brunch or aperitif package. Thus, both adults and children were satisfied. One of the tanks has already been sunk by a few men, but the fire brigade will retrieve it in the autumn during their annual diving exercise.

All 860 tickets for the event at the Sluizenkaai were sold out. The sequel to Dobbero on September 9 in Meulebeke is also sold out. There is only room for the last trip of the tanks in Avelgem, on Sunday 17 September. The initiative is part of a new series of events organized by Tourism Leiestreek that together form ‘WaterSferen’. “With Tourism Leie Region in 2023, we are fully committed to the theme ‘Holidays on the water’,” says chairman Claude Croes. The Lys, Scheldt, Mandel and Old Leie and Scheldt arms all serve as a backdrop.
