It’s been three years since the last Ruisrock.
The last time Ruisrock was organized was in 2019. The following year, the corona pandemic hit and Ruisrock was put on ice for two years.
The long wait ends this weekend, when tens of thousands head to Ruissalo in Turku.
The 2019 Ruisrock ended in a farce.
Plasterer Travis Scott’s was supposed to be Ruisrock’s main performer on Sunday, but he canceled coming to Finland. The hip-hop trio Migos was hired as a replacement, but their performance was canceled as well.
The festival organization even prepared to extend the opening hours of Ruisrock, so that the band would have time to get on stage even if they were late.

The band’s technical staff had time to arrive in Ruissalo in the morning, but the soloists Quavo, Offset and Takeoff got stuck at Frankfurt airport when a pilot could not be found for the plane at the last minute.
The cancellation was reported just before Migos was supposed to take the stage. The rain-stained audience went berserk, and bottles flew towards the stage.
– Don’t throw things. Please! Don’t throw things, host of Niittylava Jusu Lounela said.
Other memorable things happened in Ruisrock. The so-called magic of Ruisrock was broken when it rained in Ruissalo.

And it happened only afterwards. It turned out that Ruisrock was one of the events of the massive Katiska knot.
The second main perpetrator of the Katiska network, a self-confessed leader of a drug organization Niko Ranta-aho had rented a party room for his group for the 2019 Ruisrock weekend for the continuation of Ruisrock. The police was already on the trail of Ranta-aho and did a surveillance in the apartment. The wiretapping was important evidence in the trial.
– That Haberiki, I completely poisoned him, Ranta-aho said on the surveillance tape.
Also the evidence of Ranta-aho’s girlfriend at the time Sofia Belórfin used drugs. Belórf received an 80-day suspended sentence for substance abuse and money laundering.
Ranta-aho received a prison sentence of over ten years.
Ruisrock also saw a party scam, when 22-year-old Julius Brander rode himself into Ruisrock with a free seniors’ wristband.
Julius wore a mask and the clothes of an older man.
Brander got into the area with a free wristband, but he had bought a three-day festival ticket anyway.
