Do you remember Poliisi-TV’s Raija Pelli? Now returns to television in a brand new role

The host of the beloved Police TV has changed his focus from criminals to elementary school children.

Reporter Raija Pelli hasn’t been around for almost 25 years Police TV run away The favorite series was seen on television between 1989 and 2013.

– We achieved a lot of good things with the program. The program was felt to be important and people always wanted to watch it. Numerous crimes were solved with the help of tips that came into the program. It has been etched in the nation’s collective memory.

Finns have always been interested in crimes and true crime has become hugely popular internationally in the form of series and podcasts.

– This old grandma was dug out of mothballs, I find myself on a podcast talking about the crimes of that time. Let’s ask if I still remember. I think I have an obligation to go and tell about them.

Pelli says that he would not go to do it again today Police TV. The work was so comprehensive that it took all the time even on holidays. Pelli lived his work, but now that time is over.

– The world of crime is so incredibly big, it can fit a lot. I have always been of the opinion that crime must be punished and good must win over evil. There have been requests for podcasts, but so far I’ve held back. It’s easier to visit them than to do it yourself.

The victims must not be forgotten

Although true crime interests people, Pelli points out that the victims of crime must not be forgotten. Crime is hard for the perpetrator, but above all for the victims. Pelli says that he would immediately raise his hand and say that he would be available if a way could be found to promote the position of the victims, for example in the form of a podcast.

It saddens Pelli that, for example, the loved ones of the victim of a homicide are often forgotten, be it family or co-workers. He also brought it up Police TV during, because the victims have always been talked about too little in the fierce pursuit of criminals.

– Fortunately, the Crime Victim Emergency Service was established, which has been accepted across political borders. Launching it was a difficult thing then, which Police TV too was about to start when we started the fundraiser. We followed the start of the activity and made a fuss.

Pelli still enjoys writing and has no intention of stopping. On the other hand, despite repeated inquiries, he has not agreed to write a detective story, even though crimes follow.

– Where can a tiger get from its stripes, a panther from its spots. Of course I follow, but I have distanced myself from it. When a crime happens, everyone is still on the perpetrator and the sentence is followed, as it should be. However, I don’t like that they indulge in crimes or even at the expense of the victim’s suffering. I would like to change that. Maybe I’ll make that podcast, Pelli laughs.

For elementary school

Crimes have changed to the world of elementary school. In the fall, Pelli starts school, he moves to the second grade. Pelli works as a class teacher at Kauniainen elementary school. Last year, he was asked to participate in volunteer activities, where local seniors come once or more a week to support school children.

– Some first-graders say at the beginning of school that Grandma Raija, I miss home. Then the child is taken in their arms and asked what they would like to do at home. We analyze situations and do our best.

On class trips, the class teachers and guardians are an extra pair of eyes, in everyday school life, bullying is prevented. Although there is no teaching responsibility, Pelli, together with other volunteers, can support children in strengthening their traits, for example: a talented writer can be nurtured, someone interested in sports can be helped to find their own sport.

– I have always liked children and young people. This has been rewarding and energizing for me. Of course, you have to be an honest and fair citizen, you must not have a criminal record when dealing with children.

Warm winters

Raija Pelli lived part of the year with her husband in Florida, but during the corona virus it was decided to sell the apartment. During the 17 years, however, the United States became familiar.

– We are not getting any younger and we have looked more at Europe now. This summer we have spent a lot of time in the archipelago. Time is limited, I’ve had to notice that as I get older. We have had a lot of wonderful experiences in the Yankees, but home country is always home country.

Pelli suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, which has been part of the reason for traveling to warm countries. Pelli spends the worst months in a warm place, but the most important medicine is exercise.

– Of course not in all rheumatism, but often keeping yourself moving is a medicine. Sometimes there are worse days and I have to take medicine, but I manage.

The spiritual side should not be forgotten. In Pell’s opinion, you should never give up and you should entertain yourself with things you like. For him, literature provides such entertainment.

– Reading and writing are important to me. I can still make something myself, with my clumsy rheumatic hands.

Pelli takes aging well as long as he stays healthy. You have to take care of your ability to work, but on the other hand, he has always liked sports. There is also more time for sports now than in the wild working years.

– The use of time is a big plus side in getting older. If you don’t know how to take care of yourself, it’s your own stupidity. At this age, you have to watch how you eat and move. You also have to care about loved ones and share time with friends.
