The film Kovasikajuttu, which tells the story of Pertti Kurika’s band Nimipäivät, collected awards around the world.

Pertti Kurika’s punk group Nimipäivät represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna in 2015.

However, the band rose to world fame three years earlier, when the narrator of the band’s story Kovaskijattu-film was released in May 2012. The film is shown today on TV on the TV1 channel.

Pertti Kurika’s Nimipäivät originated from the film project of the Helsinki association’s art workshop for people with intellectual disabilities. The band consisted of a guitarist Pertti Kurikkasinger Kari Aaltothe bass player Sami Helle and the drummer Toni Vältalo.

The film follows the foursome’s journey to becoming Finland’s hardest punk band and sheds light on the men’s songwriting process, among other things.

The documentary made the band members world stars. The Punk Syndrome The film, which was distributed internationally under the title, collected prestigious awards in Switzerland, Poland and in Finland. In 2013, the film received the Jussi awards for best documentary film and best editing, as well as the award for best TV documentary of the year in the Prix Europa competition organized by broadcasting companies.

In Texas, the film won the SXGlobal Audience Award. in Finland Kovasikatutu was awarded a state prize and the then Minister of Culture Paavo Arhinmäki named the movie as your favorite.

In 2014, it was announced that Kovaskijattu gets a sequel. Toka pig story premiered in 2017, a year after the band broke up.
