According to Pro Luomu’s estimate, around 65,000 kilograms of Finnish organic ham will be available for the Christmas season this year.
The number of organic hams for sale this year is slightly lower than last year, says Pro Luomu in its announcement.
The S group believes that there will be no decrease in demand, however.
– We believe that the demand for organic ham will remain largely unchanged, even though sales of organic meat have decreased due to inflation. At Christmas, customers follow traditions and are ready to invest in Christmas food. This year, we have a small 2.58 kg boneless party ham frozen in our selection. In addition, fresh salted ham of the same size will go on sale in mid-December, says the S group’s sales manager Juha Nieminen in the bulletin.
At Kesko, on the other hand, it is believed that the demand for organic hams will decrease slightly this Christmas.
– As in previous years, the biggest demand for organic hams is boneless ham, but through your own K-food store it is possible to inquire about the ham you want. As a rule, K-group’s selections only include hams of Finnish origin. This applies to both organic and conventional hams, says Kesko’s purchasing and sales manager Kirsi Väistö in the bulletin.
Väistö says that if you absolutely want organic ham for your Christmas table, it’s a good idea to reserve it as soon as possible in advance.
– You should contact your local K-grocer and ask about the situation regarding organic hams, because the supply of organic hams can vary greatly in different stores. Of course, it is also possible to order hams via the online store, where you can also see the ham selection by store.
Frozen organic ham has been found in the selections in the S group’s stores since the end of October. Fresh organic hams will be available for sale on December 12.
– You should go shopping for ham early if you want to make sure you get exactly the right kind of ham, says Juha Nieminen.
