Last week an SCP report was published about the confidence of the Dutch and it was all nothing again. ‘Confidence in politics remains low, dissatisfaction with decisiveness’, the newspaper’s site read. The NOS: ‘Politics must prevent citizens from giving up’. NRC: ‘Trust in politics has been politicized.’ That is a thoughtful one, it was meant that supporters of the coalition parties have much more confidence in politics than supporters of the right-wing opposition in particular. Quite logical actually. Incidentally, the SCP continuously measures confidence in politics and it has been low for some time. Normally, after a new cabinet takes office, you see that confidence rebounds, said SCP researcher Josje den Ridder. “That effect did not materialize this time.”
