“Do my thing”: DHB coach Gislason reacts to criticism

Handball national coach Alfred Gislason spoke out with his critic Karsten Günther. That’s what the 63-year-old Icelander said during the half-time break in the Bundesliga game between SC Magdeburg and SG Flensburg-Handewitt on “Sky”. They met at a game in Göppingen.

According to a report in the news magazine “Der Spiegel” at the beginning of May, Günther, managing director of SC DHfK Leipzig and a member of the HBL executive committee, is said to have called for Gislason to be replaced after poor performance by the national team. “Everyone can have their own opinion. I’ll do my thing,” said the national coach.

Gislason also confirmed again that he is in contact with Fabian Wiede (Füchse Berlin), Hendrik Pekeler (THW Kiel) and Sebastian Heymann (Frisch Auf Göppingen) about their return to the national team for the home European Championship in January 2024. Patrick Wiencek from Kiel, on the other hand, is no longer an issue. “Wiencek canceled. He said goodbye to the national team,” said Gislason.
