DJs see newcomer Cloud Cukkoo as the music tip of 2023

“It is very special to hear”, Jori van Gemert from Cuijk responds to the enthusiastic sounds of radio presenters. She sent an email to KINK FM to promote her music as Cloud Cukkoo. “If someone picks that up and believes in you, that’s great anyway. But if that’s also Eric Corton, then that really gives you confidence.”

On Friday afternoon, her new single will be played on the radio for the first time. Jori sends a recording of it, recording the moment completely for her own memory. Anna, the song is called, about a homeless man in Dublin. During a city trip, he saw the singer begging with a coffee cup with that name written on it. “I thought that was so sad: even his begging cup was not his. So I had to remember that name.”

“When I see something like that, I start thinking about anecdotes to translate such a story into. I want to keep the melody exciting and make music that sounds like something no one has ever made before. Actually impossible, of course, but I still want it Try it. Danceable depression, I call it.”

“She makes music where you hear that she has something to say about the world.”

As she tried to remember that name in Dublin, people are now starting to remember her name. During the CorVee radio program on KINK FM, DJs Michiel Veenstra and Eric Corton discuss their tips for 2023. “Cloud Cukko is my tip for 2023. That was it for 2022, but actually again this year,” says radio DJ Eric Corton determined on the ether. He is talking about 26-year-old Jori van Gemert, from Cuijk

“She makes music where you hear that she has something to say about the world. At least it is about something.” He refers to her themes such as homelessness, but also heartbreak and loneliness. “Music in which you can still hear the soul,” he says.

“I never felt part of the cool people before.”

From Cuijk, the young singer will continue to focus on her career in 2023. Live, but also on record and via the radio. “It’s starting to come to life more and more and I think that’s so cool. I never felt part of the cool people before, let alone that people responded nicely to my music. Now I do. I’ve found my people.”
