Diversity, equity and inclusion of women at Snam

ci are companies where i employees are particularly satisfied and motivated. One of these is Snam, the Italian group which is the leading European operator in the transport of natural gas. The secret? It is what they call here “people strategy”. «With us» explains Paola Boromei, Chief People Officer of the group, «we take care of people with a holistic approach. Through our welfare we offer tools and initiatives for a healthy lifestyle and the achievement of well-being. We foster a culture based on inclusion, enabling women to devote the same energies to their career as their male colleagues».

Women and work, a complicated relationship: more than half would like to change jobs

In more detail, for Snam welfare means first and foremost health protection: for every worker there is health insurance that also extends to the family. And then, the company offers support for daycare expenses, text books, scholarships, discounted rates for summer camps and study holidays for children aged 6 to 18.

Training is also a priority. Snam Institute has developed over 130 distance learning courses on various topics, from leadership to energy transition and digital skills. These proposals are flanked by others aimed at new hires, plus iThe Snaminnova programme, through which employees and external start-ups can develop innovative projects.

Female talent is encouraged: between 2021 and 2022, women in executive and middle management positions grew to 25 percent, with the aim of reaching 27 percent in two years.

The flagship is the Certification on Gender Equality, assigned by an external certifying body on the basis of a path that led to a strategic plan on gender equity. Furthermore, Snam Inclusion Week, now in its third edition, involved 750 people through workshops on topics ranging from disability to equal parenting, from gender identity to intergenerational dialogue.
