The divers Moritz Wesemann and Alexander Lube missed out on a medal at the World Swimming Championships in Doha and the hoped-for quota place for the Olympic Games in Paris.
The duo only came 16th in the synchronized 3m board competition on Sunday with 328.62 points, thus wasting their last chance for an Olympic ticket in this discipline.
After three of six rounds, Wesemann (Halle) and Lube (Aachen) were still in third place, but slipped down the rankings after Lube made a mistake in the fourth jump. Gold went to the defending champions Daoyi Long and Zongyuan Wang from China (442.41 points), silver went to the Italians Lorenzo Marsaglia and Giovanni Tocci (384.24), bronze went to the Spaniards Adrian Abadia and Nicolas Garcia (383.28).
Before the competitions in the capital of Qatar, DSV competitive sports director Christian Hansmann emphasized that there was “no medal requirement”. The quota places are important, the remaining seven out of twelve are “still to be won in order to be represented in all disciplines in Paris”.
