In Hoogeveen, emergency services are looking for a drowning person in the water at the Nijstad pavilion. Divers from the fire service have stopped their search after hours of searching. The victim has not yet been found.
The drowning person is said to have entered the water this afternoon and disappeared under water. According to a photographer, employees of the Nijstad pavilion initially dived into the water to save the drowning person. Visitors to the pavilion have since been turned away.
Later, divers from the fire brigade from Emmen and Zwolle arrived on the scene to look for the victim. They are relieved by a special police team that specializes in searching in and around the water. That means there is little hope left of getting the victim out of the water alive.
Police say they will continue to search tonight. If the drowning person is not found, the search will continue tomorrow.
