Divers have to rescue hypothermic festival goer from mud: ‘He got in and couldn’t get out’ | Abroad

with videoAt the music festival Voodoo Village in Grimbergen in Belgium, the fire brigade had to rescue a man from the shallow moat of the festival site around 8 p.m. on Saturday evening. The festival-goer got stuck in the mud and couldn’t get out of the pond. He was briefly hypothermic and was taken to hospital for a check-up.

It was forbidden to enter the moat of the ‘s Gravenkasteel, which was clearly marked with gates at the festival. Still, the man ended up in the shallow water. Bystanders soon realized he was stuck in the mud, but there was little they could do. While trying to get out of the water, the man also fell forward. At that point, he completely panicked and tried to keep his head above water.

The fire brigade rushed to the spot and a team of divers went into the water to free the man from his predicament. Unfortunately, that did not go smoothly. The mud was so thick that the divers themselves struggled to stay upright. More than half an hour after the man had hit the pond, the fire service was able to pull him out.

He was hypothermic and was immediately warmed on the spot using thermal blankets. The organization said that the man is now doing well. “Thanks to the quick and resolute action of the emergency services, the man was quickly removed from the water. He was taken to a first aid post with hypothermia, but was soon stable again. He was taken to the hospital for a check-up,” said Maxim Dekegel, organizer of Voodoo Village.
