At the swimming pool De Meerkamp on the Van der Hooplaan in Amstelveen, a diver was injured this morning in the instruction pool. A diving cylinder may have exploded.
Police, fire brigade, several ambulances and a trauma helicopter came to the swimming pool to provide the employee with medical care. The victim was then rushed to hospital.
Very shocked
Pool employees are shocked. “It has a huge impact on us. You don’t experience something like that every day,” says Suzan Kaynar, coordinator at De Meerkamp. She and her colleagues are currently receiving counseling from victim support. “Three years ago we also had CPR in the pool. Some colleagues are now reliving this feeling.”
It is not yet clear what exactly happened in the pool. The pool will remain closed for the rest of the day. The condition of the victim is not yet known.
The Labor Inspectorate is conducting further investigations.
