After the streaming giant Netflix, Disney+ is now making the move to an advertising subscription. And just like Netflix, there should also be clear restrictions on the model.
At Disney +, the announced advertising subscription has now started in the USA. At the same time, the prices for the usual subscription without advertising have also increased. However, it has now become apparent that, at least for the time being, there are significant limitations in availability on some devices.
Prices and info for Disney+ with advertising
Disney + follows its big competitor Netflix and introduces a cheaper subscription that shows advertising for it. So far, this model does not exist, at least not in this country. However, the USA start allows some conclusions.
The previous subscription is now called Disney+ Premium. Incidentally, the price has increased by USD 3 to USD 10.99. The ad-supported subscription, which is now called Disney+ Basic, is available for the previous $7.99. As a comparatively young streaming service, there was only one tariff at Disney+ – you could only choose whether you wanted to pay monthly or annually.
In Germany, Disney + has so far cost 8.99 euros. So, with the introduction of advertising on Disney+, this price could rise to €10.99 or even €11.99. Disney states that subscribers to the new tariff in the USA will be shown four minutes of advertising per hour of streaming.

Disney+ promotional subscription not for Roku devices
After the start in the USA, it is now becoming apparent that the advertising subscription at Disney+ is not simply a cheap version of the previous offer. However, the restrictions are, at least so far, less extensive than with long-term rival Netflix. There, subscribers to the advertising subscription no longer have access to certain licensed titles and even in-house productions of the streaming service.
At least that doesn’t seem to be the case with Disney+ and isn’t planned for the future either. On the other hand, the Disney + subscription with advertising also does not have an offline function and does not work with the popular Roku operating system. This is likely because Roku charges a revenue share when vendors want to show ads through its devices. And the details don’t seem to have been agreed between Roku and Disney+. However, according to Techcrunch, the companies are still in negotiations.
When is Disney+ coming to Germany with advertising?
Not much is known about the exact German launch of the Disney+ advertising subscription. After the start in the USA at the end of 2022, however, it is very likely that a start is planned for the course of 2023.
It is also unclear whether a similar price increase will then take place in Germany.
