Disney + and RTL + Premium free of charge at Telekom: check the offer

Telekom currently has an interesting offer that users can book independently of the Internet provider. MagentaTV, Disney+ and RTL+ Premium are free for the first six months and then at a low monthly price. What is it about the offer and is there a catch?

Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, RTL+ Premium and Sky – there are more and more streaming services on the market that offer exclusive series and films. It can quickly become very expensive for customers. The current offer from Telekom seems to be just right. The provider bundles its in-house MagentaTV offering with Disney+ and RTL+ Premium and offers the package at a very attractive price. Subscribers pay nothing for the first six months. However, you should note one important point before booking.

What does Telekom’s MagentaTV offer?

For some time now, Deutsche Telekom has been offering MagentaTV independently of a landline or internet connection with the provider. The offer enables linear television via the Internet (IPTV) and thus offers an alternative to Zattoo or waipu.tv, for example. Customers have access to 75 channels in HD including restart and timeshift functions, can use MagentaTV on up to five devices with up to three parallel streams – even when they are on the go – and have access to Telekom’s mega library. MagentaTV also includes 50 hours of recording storage in the cloud.

With a monthly price of 10 euros, the MagentaTV Smart entry-level package is actually quite cheap. especially since access to RTL+ Premium is already included here. This actually costs 4.99 euros per month. For comparison: Zattoo charges 9.99 euros per month for its ad-free premium offer. Although customers do not have access to RTL+ Premium here, with 141 channels, 127 of which are in HD, the selection of channels is significantly larger.

Telekom offers Disney+ in a bundle at a reasonable price

If you want, you can also book Telekom’s MagentaTV in a bundle with Disney+. If you want to access television via the Internet as well as RTL+ Premium and Disney+, this is the cheapest option. Because Telekom charges significantly less for the MagentaTV Entertain package than customers would have to pay for a single booking of the streaming services.

Actually, the monthly subscription of the Mickey Mouse group costs 8.99 euros. RTL+ Premium costs EUR 4.99 per month. All in all, that’s already 13.98 euros per month – without Magenta TV. Telekom offers the subscription completely free of charge for the first six months, after which customers only pay 12 euros for a further six months – which is also significantly less than for individual bookings. The price only increases to 15 euros per month from the 13th month of the contract.

The hook on the subscription

The price of MagentaTV Entertain is currently extremely attractive thanks to the free months. But our list also shows a catch that does not exist when booking directly with the streaming providers: the running time. Telekom only markets the offer as a 24-month contract. Customers must therefore commit themselves to the provider and the two streaming providers for a period of two years. RTL+ Premium and Disney+ are booked separately by Telekom, but can be canceled on a monthly basis. MagentaTV Entertain is therefore not suitable for trying out streaming providers.

We have previously recommended booking streaming services in stages. This avoids the enormously high costs that would otherwise be incurred when booking several services. So if you want to watch a current series on Netflix, you book this provider and then maybe switch to Disney+, where a few nice films are waiting for viewers. The advantage of this streaming provider hopping: Customers not only save money, they are also not overwhelmed by an oversupply of content. Because viewers rarely have the time to stream on Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Co within a month. Rather, you start a series on a portal, see it there to the end, before perhaps switching to the next one on a different service.

Users should consider these things before committing themselves to Telekom for two years. If you are sure that you will use Disney+ and RTL+ intensively over this period, you can take advantage of Telekom’s offer with a clear conscience.
