Dismissed alderman Guido Schoolmeesters gets the most votes

In the municipal elections in the municipality of Someren, former alderman Guido Schoolmeesters emerged as the big winner. His party the Community List won the elections, thanks in part to Schoolmeesters, who single-handedly received 1,229 votes.

This was apparent from the vote list that the municipality of Someren released on Thursday evening.

In the spring of 2021, Alderman Schoolmeesters came under fire. According to an investigative report, he favored his son and a construction company on a starter home project. Alderman Schoolmeesters would not have been honest.

The city council voted him out. Since that time, Schoolmeesters has been trying to clear his reputation. That even led to a lawsuit in Den Bosch in which officials were heard.

Seat distribution
The Community List wins one seat in this election and goes to a total of six seats. The party is therefore still the largest in Someren. The PvdA surrenders one seat and thus retains one seat. For the other parties, the distribution of seats remains the same.

It is striking that councilor Willem van Doorn, second on the list of the PvdA, got more votes then party leader Hans van Maris (235 against 321). The turnout percentage this year was 55 percent, three percent lower than in 2018 (58.1 percent).
