CD&V and N-VA, both in opposition, want to do everything they can at the municipal council to park the plan. During the previous municipal election they themselves won the parking lot. But then came a study that questioned the financial feasibility. Sandy Buysschaert, CD&V Plus: “On the one hand, it is not feasible for the city coffers because the developer would have to run with the parking revenues themselves. And secondly, the parker will also have to pay much more. So the taxpayer loses twice.”
The opposition also calls it inappropriate to launch major projects less than 10 months before the elections. They want people from Blankenberge to be able to express their views on what should really be done with the Grote Markt.
