Discounter Aldi Nord opens new company headquarters in Essen

After three years of construction, the discounter Aldi Nord officially opened its new company headquarters in Essen-Kray on Wednesday. The 100,000 square meter building complex will offer space for more than 2,000 employees of the retail chain. Despite the pandemic, it was possible to complete the construction work for the Aldi campus within the planned budget and time frame, said the group manager responsible for the construction, Torsten Janke.

The office complex consists mainly of open office areas, co-working areas and over 100 meeting rooms. With a total of around 1,200 permanent workplaces in the main building, there are fewer than 50 individual offices. In addition, the campus has its own lecture hall, a staff restaurant, a bistro, a fitness pavilion and a daycare center. The roofs of the campus are mostly equipped with green areas and photovoltaic systems.

Aldi Nord is one of the largest German discounters. The retail group operates a total of 2,200 branches in the northern half of Germany. There are also more than 5,200 foreign branches in the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Poland. The group employs almost 120,000 people across Europe. (dpa)
