AZ has been painfully exposed at home by leader PSV. The score was 0-4 for the Eindhoven team and the first white tissues were visible in the stadium. The Alkmaarders produced only one shot and it was not even on target.
AZ had good hopes of washing away the European elimination against Legia Warsaw against PSV. The first setback became known just before kick-off; goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro had returned from Poland with an injury. His replacement was Hobie Verhulst, who scored PSV’s first goal. A poor back pass from David Møller Wolfe was intercepted by Malik Tillman and Verhulst tapped him.
Referee Dennis Higler decided to give PSV a penalty after VAR interference. Luuk de Jong gave PSV the lead: 0-1. Then things went from bad to worse. Ismael Saibari makes the second of the Eindhoven team and within fifteen minutes it was even 0-3 by Sergiño Dest. Pascal Jansen had seen enough just before half-time and intervened harshly: Djorde Mihailovic, Ernest Poku and Tiago Dantas left. Dani de Wit, Ibrahim Sadiq and Kenzo Goudmijn.

The AZ supporters had seen enough and waved white handkerchiefs. Jansen also had to suffer in Alkmaar. He saw that PSV shifted down a gear in the second half. However, the Eindhoven team extended the lead even further to 0-4 after a cross from Saibari to De Jong. It took until the 64th minute before AZ had the first opportunity. Vangelis Pavlidis crossed and substitute De Wit could not score from close range.
Despite AZ’s single chance, the game had already been played for a long time. The disappointed fans of the Alkmaarders had quickly seen enough and went home. In the final phase no more exciting things happened and the score remained 0-4.
