Disciplinary committee KNVB investigates discontinued duel Vitesse – Sparta ANP
The KNVB disciplinary committee is investigating Friday’s canceled match between Vitesse and Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie. “The investigation will focus on the question of guilt for the incident,” the KNVB said.
Sparta led 0-1 in the Gelredome when a supporter first entered the field. In the second minute of stoppage time, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was thrown to his head by the visitors from Rotterdam. Referee Rob Dieperink decided to temporarily suspend the game. Then a heavy firecracker bomb was thrown on the field and Vitesse supporters fought each other.
When the disciplinary committee has finished the investigation, the professional football board of the KNVB will decide what to do with the remainder of the match. The board has three options here. The intermediate score (0-1) becomes the final score, the match must be continued from the moment of abandonment or the match must be replayed in its entirety.
