Disciplinary committee acquits gymnastics coach Vincent Wevers of transgressive behavior | Sport

According to the disciplinary committee, it has not been sufficiently established that the gymnastics coach was guilty of disciplinary culpable behaviour. The committee also finds that the interviews (and their interview reports) are of insufficient quality. “The disciplinary committee is of the opinion that parts of the work of the commission of inquiry or the content of the investigation file, on which the report is based, must be regarded as being of insufficient quality”, can be concluded from the judgment. The prosecutor demanded a 28-month suspension, four of which were unconditional with two years of probation.

Wevers was one of the coaches to whom an investigation into undesirable and transgressive behavior was conducted at the ISR. That investigation was opened in the summer of 2020 when various statements from former gymnasts came out after a confession by coach Gerrit Beltman.

For ‘medical reasons’, Wevers did not appear at the hearing that took place on March 21 in Nieuwegein and said earlier that he did not want to comment as long as the case is pending at the ISR.

Due to the ongoing case, Wevers was kept out of the coaching staff at the Tokyo Olympics by the KNGU gymnastics association. His employment with the union was also terminated.
