A frustrating match. This is how Jong Ajax coach John Heitinga described his team’s defeat against Jong FC Utrecht. “With all due respect to the opponent, we must and can do this much better”, said Heitinga.
The start of the young Ajax players was still good according to Heitinga. “After that it went wrong every time in the final phase. I expected more from players who want to make a step into the first team. We gave away the goals too clumsily and then you know that it will be difficult against a team that is at the bottom.”
Heitinga was not too busy with the next U21 cracker against PSV. “We have to look back at this match first. I missed a piece of poison and going into duels. Young FC Utrecht put a lot of work on the mat, that was what we lacked.”

Captain Kian Fitz-Jim felt his team’s pace was too slow in the second half. “If you score a goal, you stay in that positive mode. A goal failed to materialize and we even conceded it. Fortunately, we equalized quickly, but there was no more to it.”
Fitz-Jim: “It is partly due to ourselves, but also to the opponent that we lost. They played very defensively and we have trouble with that. The feeling prevails that there could have been more.”
