Disappointing debut Tijmen Snel on World Cup sprint, skater is eighth

The World Sprint Championship is not yet what Tijmen Snel had expected. The skater from Amsterdam makes his debut and is in eighth place after the first day. The other Dutchmen, Thomas Krol and Kai Verbij, are second and third.

The Amsterdammer therefore played a supporting role today. He was fourteenth in the 500 meters with 35.46. In the 1000 meters he recorded the sixth time (1.09.80). Snel was crowned Dutch sprint champion at the end of January, after Kjeld Nuis and Dai Dai N’tab. He also won a ticket for the World Cup.

The skater finished third in the 1500 meters at the OKT. He was eventually not allowed to go to Beijing, because the KNSB designated other skaters. Femke Kok leads the general classification in the women’s race.
