Ivar Slik did not succeed in scoring high at the first clay court World Cup. The gravel racer from Mons finished 37th in Veneto. Beforehand, he hoped to be able to win the World clay clay championship.
It was the first time that the World Championship clay was held. This championship was in the Italian Veneto. In the end Gianni Vermeersch became the winner. The 29-year-old rider led the entire race with Italian Daniel Oss and discharged his competitor. There was still a good final classification for the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel. He finished third ahead of Greg van Avermaet.
In June, Slik won the Unbound clay game in America. This is seen as the unofficial World Cup. Despite this, he couldn’t break any pots today. He crossed the finish line twelve minutes later than the winner.
