Disappointed Ten Hag sees Manchester United making too many mistakes | NOW

A disappointed Erik ten Hag noticed on Sunday after his Manchester United debut that his players made too many mistakes during the Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Due to two goals from Pascal Gross, Manchester United already faced a 0-2 deficit halfway through. A desperate offensive resulted in nothing more than the connecting goal, an own goal by Alexis Mac Allister.

“This is a setback, a real disappointment,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports. “We have to deal with this. I already knew it would not be easy. We have started a process that takes time. But the time is not there.”

Ten Hag had nothing to say about the fighting spirit of his players. “It was not the attitude. We made too many mistakes. For example, we lost the ball way too easily and the organization was not always good. We have to analyze this and learn from it.”

With the entrance of Cristiano Ronaldo after the break, Manchester United seemed to be getting new impetus. “It is clear that we had more opportunities in the second half, for example via Marcus Rashford. It will take time before Ronaldo is completely fit, he has only been training fully for more than a week. He will be better next week.”

Ten Hag was also asked whether more reinforcements are not simply needed. “We should have done better today with these players too,” the ex-coach of Ajax responded. “I am not satisfied at all. We still have to develop, but at the top you have to deliver immediately.”

Captain Maguire reacts devastated to loss

According to captain Harry Maguire, the first goal against the Manchester United players “hit hard”. “We started so positively, after a good preparation. But it couldn’t be worse: halfway through with 0-2 behind in our own house. That was a nightmare. In the second half it went better, but it was not enough. For example, we have to become more creative.”

Maguire formed a defense duo with Lisandro Martínez, who came over from Ajax. “It is fantastic that he is here. There is a real competition between all defenders. What you did see is that we have not played together that often. Before halftime, the coordination sometimes went wrong. We still have some time required.”

Manchester United will visit Brentford on Saturday and a home game with Liverpool will follow on August 22.
