Disappointed Jansen realizes that AZ ‘must be even better’ at crucial moments

AZ sees two chances of a prize go up in smoke in two weeks. In the semi-final of the cup, the Alkmaarders lost to Ajax and on Thursday evening they did not win over two matches Bodo/Glimt. “If we want to overcome moments like this, we have to be even better.”

It was a mixed evening for Bruno Martins Indi against Bodø/Glimt. At the opening goal he was the declarant with a splitting deep pass, but at the equalizing goal the central defender made a mistake. Martins Indi could have dealt with that if he had worked an open head chance between the posts in the last minute.

The elimination in the Conference League is hard in Alkmaar. For a long time it looked like AZ could erase the defeat in Norway by finishing the job at home. As a result, the season of Jansen’s team seems to be going out like a candle, because it has now come to an end on all fronts. Only in the competition does it still participate in the battle for places three and four.

Nevertheless, Jansen notes that AZ has indeed made steps in the course of the season. “We were written off by everyone in September. Then we got back together and kept our faith. You only feel these kinds of things when you get to the stage where you are going to play for the prizes.”
