Once again FC Volendam had to take a big blow. The red lantern carrier in the premier league lost with big numbers to NEC: 2-5. Vivaldo Semedo and Zach Booth scored for the Eelboeren. Volendam also lost hard against SC Heerenveen last Sunday (0-4).
Previously, Volendam fans still had hope that NEC had suffered ‘champagne legs’ after reaching the cup final. That scenario seemed to become reality within ten minutes. Vivaldo Semedo, who was preferred to Robert Mühren, headed home from Bilal Ould-Chikh’s corner. His goal was canceled because Zach Booth was annoyingly offside on the goal line.
It was extra sad that NEC was accurate in the subsequent attack. A bet from Youri Baas was saved by goalkeeper Mio Backhaus and Sontje Hansen then scored: 0-1. The people of Nijmegen were able to expand the score in the remaining part in a fairly simple way. First Kodai Sano shot the ball diagonally into the goal, after which Sylla Sow headed home just before half time: 0-3.

The Eel Farmers seemed dead and buried, but that was only an appearance. Ould-Chikh enhanced his return after being ill with a delicate assist on Semedo. The Portuguese then rounded goalie Jasper Cillessen and scored: 1-3. Volendam’s expected offensive failed to materialize.
It was a bit of a shock in the final phase, after George Cox did not get up after a duel. The Briton was able to leave after injury treatment, but NEC poured even more salt into the wounds. Rober Gonzalez aimed a shot from distance behind Backhaus (1-4). It became even more exciting with a goal from Zach Booth. However, that tension was shattered by Lars Olden Larsen (2-5). These painful figures could no longer be changed.
Due to the sixteenth defeat of the season, Volendam remains last in the Premier League. Vitesse can benefit if it achieves a result against FC Twente. Volendam will visit PEC Zwolle on March 10. The kick-off is at 2:30 PM.
