Despite the constant rain, Chancellor Olaf Scholz did not let himself be deterred from visiting the Special Olympics.
The date planned for the track and field athletes in the Hanns-Braun-Stadion was moved to the Horst-Korber-Zentrum due to the unpredictable weather, where the head of government followed the handball competitions of the World Games for the mentally and multiply handicapped.
“Participating is almost more important than winning. A few win too, but everyone participates, and that’s a really great thing. It’s important for me to see that it’s also a really great event in everyday life after the opening. I wish me that things will continue like this,” said the SPD politician.
“Is very moving”
The Chancellor had previously spoken to athletes and officials on the fringes of the Azerbaijan-India game and was available for numerous selfies with athletes and volunteers.
“I also saw how many volunteers are there. That’s very moving. The whole thing couldn’t work at all if an incredible number of people didn’t work to keep the whole operation running. I would like to thank you very much and the athletes too good luck, good luck and above all a lot of fun,” said Scholz.
