“I have no desire to remake the first film or to compete with the old and the new, nor do I aspire to make it as good. The point is: what’s a new story to tell?” he said.

The original film was released in 1987 and featured Francis “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Gray) vacationing with his family. The years were the sixties. Prequel and remake, never again anyone like the movie
In the wake of the success, an attempt was made to repeat it with the 2004 prequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights and the 2017 remake with Abigail Breslin. None of which, however, managed to come even remotely close to the original.
Now the hopes are all on the new film that was announced at CinemaCon 2022, along with confirmation that Jennifer Gray will return to play Baby Houseman. The release is scheduled for US theaters on February 9, 2024, while the date on which we will be able to see him in Italy is still unknown.
