The fashion designer Dirk Schönberger has left the luxury brand MCM. Only last year he was promoted to global brand manager of the label founded in Munich.
Schönberger worked as the creative director at sporting goods manufacturer Adidas until 2018, before becoming Global Creative Officer at MCM. He has served “as a key catalyst in product design and brand experience” and implemented global creative strategies, MCM said Monday.
“Among other fundamental steps, he played the central role in transforming the leather goods label into a full-look brand,” said MCM, now part of South Korea’s Sungjoo Group. “He owns the brand with his vision and creative flair made it what it is today while always keeping its foundation at heart.”
Creative in the background
Dirk Schönberger liked to stay in the background in his past roles. He is best known for his work at Adidas. At the Herzogenaurach group, he revived classics like the Stan Smith sneaker and got collaborations with celebrities like fashion designer Raf Simons and rapper Kanye West rolling.
Before joining Adidas, Schönberger was creative director for the Joop! brand from 2007 to 2010. and ran his own label of the same name until 2009.
The MCM brand, founded in 1976, has over 650 sales points in more than 40 countries, with locations in metropolises such as Munich, London and Tokyo.
The trade magazine Women’s Wear Daily reported on the personnel on Friday.
