Former NBA superstar Dirk Nowitzki is ruling out a career as a basketball coach.
“Coaching is not in my plans. It might be fun to work with the guys individually, but team coaching is the last thing I want to do. Honestly. Standing there, making speeches, motivating the players … I have hardly the patience with my children, “said the Würzburger in Dallas. All other options are on the table.
Nowitzki, who continues to live in Texas with his family, is currently acting as an advisor to the Dallax Mavericks.
The 43-year-old will – a good three years after the end of his career – receive another honor on Thursday night (1:30 a.m. CET / DAZN and NBA League Pass) before the game against the Golden State Warriors when his jersey with the number 41 is pulled under the ceiling of the hall by the Mavericks and will never be awarded again afterwards.
Dirk Nowitzki: “I hope it doesn’t get too emotional”
For more than two decades, culminating in the first title in the club’s history in 2011, Nowitzki had played non-stop for Dallas. Soon there will even be a statue of him in front of the arena.
“I hope it doesn’t get too emotional. But I’m sure that some of the videos will make me emotional. The Mavs will have something up their sleeve, I want to lose myself at the moment,” said Nowitzki.
He added: “I hope this is the last honor. The street, the statue, the number … You know me, that’s a bit of a spotlight for me,” joked the native of Würzburg.
Friends and family by Dirk Nowitzki’s side
