Italian film director Ruggero Deodato is dead. Deodato, respected in the film industry, was 83 years old when he passed away. According to the Italian media, he died on Thursday.

Deodato had a long career as a director. He made several films of different genres, many of which caused discussion among viewers. He is best known for the horror film he directed Cannibal Holocaust.

Perhaps one of the most notorious films of all time contains, among other things, violence and torture against animals.

The film was banned in about 40 countries, including Finland. The torture and cannibal scenes were initially believed to be authentic.

The work directed by Deodato was thought to be a so-called snuff film. It means that one or more people would actually be murdered on the set of the movie.

However, the truth was different. Persistent rumors still circulated from country to country and eventually Deodato ended up in court, because he was accused of murdering the actors he used in the film. He was also charged with immorality.

The charges were dropped when Deodato brought the presumed dead Actors to the courtroom in full force. However, he was convicted of animal cruelty, but the conviction was overturned in 1984.

In an interview, Deodato described his philosophy regarding the films he directed.

– I make films that people call horror because I want to make films about things that happen in real life. Many right things are not always nice, Deodato stated.

In addition to Finland, the United States, Australia, Great Britain, New Zealand and Norway, among others, once banned the screening of horror films.

Later, the ban was lifted in Finland and the film premiered in 2001 under the name Burnt offerings of cannibals.
