Bogdanovich was best known for the black and white drama The Last Picture Show which he directed in 1971. The film received a total of eight Oscar nominations, including best director and best screenplay. He was also involved as a director in films such as What’s Up Doc?, Targets, Saint Jack, Daisy Miller and Paper Moon. His last movie was She’s Funny That Way from 2014. Bogdanovich is seen as someone who bridged the gap between the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ Hollywood.
In addition to being a director, Bogdanovich, with his characteristic striking horn-rimmed glasses, was also active as a writer and producer. He also regularly appeared in front of the camera. That’s how he shone as Dr. Elliot Kupferberg in the HBO series The Sopranos and a few years ago in the movie The Other Side of the Wind (2018) by Orson Welles.
